#PrideVis

A Surry Hills Liquor Accord Initiative, sponsored by City of Sydney

#PrideVis

Venues in our precinct come in all shapes, sizes and colours; but there are some things we all agree on. We all agree that there is no place for homophobia or transphobia in Oxford Street. We all agree that members of the queer community deserve to feel safe, included and supported anywhere, but especially around Oxford Street. We all believe that Oxford Street should continue to be celebrated as a predominantly LGBTQIA+ precinct.

What is it?

#PrideVis is a safety initiative of the Surry Hills Liquor Accord, and is supported by the City of Sydney, NSW Police, the Oxford Street Pride Business Charter, and the Rainbow Precinct. #PrideVis aims to have every security guard working doors within the Oxford Street precinct wearing a hi-vis #PrideVis vest or armband.

Why is #PrideVis needed?

#PrideVis is needed to help ensure the safety of the LGBTQIA+ community within the Oxford St precinct, and to celebrate that Oxford St is predominantly a LGBTQIA+ precinct.

It works by:

• signaling to the LGBTQIA+ community that they are welcome, safe and included in our venues;

• reminding members of the general public of the precinct that they are in, and the standards of behaviour that come with that; and,

• reminding security personnel to promote inclusiveness, safety and to be welcoming to the LGBTQIA+ community.

For #PrideVis to work effectively, it is essential that all venues participate, and not just LGBTQIA+ venues. The Liquor Accord expects all eligible members to participate.

Who is eligible?

To receive free #PrideVis vests or armbands, you:

• are a licensed premises located in the Oxford St precinct, or immediate surrounds; and,

• are a current member of the Surry Hills Liquor Accord.
